I took the chevron element from the logo and experimented with using this within my designs.
I also tried a background but I think this is too much for a letterhead and white space would be more effective.
I experimented a lot with the thickness and positioning of the chevrons to get to the most effective outcome.
I also added in the address at the bottom in a simple sans serif typeface to compliment the simplicity of the logo.
I think the thickness of the chevrons is too much and they are overpowering the rest of the design so I need to make them less of a focal point.
I also tried adding in the boat element but I think the bottom of the design is still too bold and needs to be subtler than the logo so that the logo remains the focal point.
I tried lowering the opacity to make it subtler but I think the size still needs to be decreased.
I think the size of this is a lot more effective. I also changed the logo by having the simpler version with the slogan because I think its important to have 'venice' written on the stationery to give it a clear link to my brand identity. I need to experiment further with the layout of the bottom of the design because the chevron and text don't blend well together and it looks a bit cluttered.
I decided to move the text to the top as I couldn't place it anywhere at the bottom without it looking out of place or cluttered. I think this looks effective because there is still plenty of white space and it helps frame the page nicely and balance out the top as it looked a bit heavy on the left with just the logo there.
I reduced the amount of chevrons and I think this looks effective because the top of the letter head stays the main focal point but the chevrons add a nice accent to it. I think this design looks effective because the colour scheme runs throughout and links it to my brand identity and the logo and footer really bring across the nautical theme.
Buisness Card
Next I designed the business card and tried out various elements from my logo and different backgrounds to come up with the most effective result.
I first tried basing it around my slogan and tried out a couple of different colour schemes and backgrounds.
I decided to go for a more image based route, as the back will be based around the text so I wanted to have a contrast between that and the front to keep the design varied. I experimented with placing my main logo over different backgrounds using different layouts.

I then tried simplifying the logo so that I could increase the size and have it fill more of the business card. I think this looks more effective as it really stands out against the background whilst still representing the nautical theme of my designs.
I also tried some more decorative typography but I think these were too complex for a business card and made it look too cluttered.
I chose this design in the end because having the colour overlay brings across my colour scheme, whilst allowing me to use an image behind which brings across the atmosphere and feel of the city. The chevron really contrasts against the blue and is really eye catching as well as bringing across the nautical theme.
I then played around with different layouts for the back using my main logo and text in the same font I used on my letterhead for continuity. I decided to colour it the same as the darker colour of my logo to keep it coherent and make it all compliment each other nicely.
I also tried out added in the chevron and boat design but I think it overcomplicates it and it really should have my full logo on to keep a consistent brand identity going.
I chose this layout in the end because the simplicity and white space balance out the busy front of the card, but the logo is still included to keep my brand identity going.
Compliments Slip
To make my compliments slip I condensed the letter down and this keeps continuity and makes my stationery look part of set.
Envelope
I also created an envelope design. I based this off the layout of the letter and compliments slip to keep it looking part of a set but simplified it down as I didn't want it too cluttered and busy so that the address can be the clear focal point. I also adapted the layout by moving the address adjacent to the logo to make room for a stamp. I made it a pale colour and reduced the size so that it didn't clash against the address text and kept that as the focal point.
Layout for print
I then placed them onto mockups and this helped me see how they would turn out without having to print them all separately. When placing my letterhead on the first mockup I found the 'love dream' text was too pale and couldn't be seen from a distance.
I then darkened it so that it stood out more.
I finished off the rest of the mockup and made some additional designs for extra elements that were on the template using my logo and one of the backgrounds I had created to tie it all in together. I think this shows how my stationery set works together as a whole and the colour scheme is consistent throughout along with the repeat of the logo and chevron design which clearly links it all back to my brand identity.
